CAF to supply Metro units in Colombia and Chile

(07/01/2025)

The operator of the Medellín Metro, Transporte Masivo del Valle de Aburrá Limitada-Metro de Medellín, has awarded CAF the design and supply of thirteen new units. The contract provides for the final assembly and the subsequent testing period. The trains will consist of three cars each and will be used on lines A and B to meet the expected increase in passenger demand in the coming years. The new rolling stock will be fully compatible with the fleet currently in operation.

In addition to this contract, the operator of Santiago de Chile Metro, Transporte de Pasajeros Metro-Metro Santiago, has selected CAF for the design, supply and maintenance of six new five-car units for the Line 6 extensions. The trains will be equipped with the GoA4 automatic driving system, as were the 41 trains previously supplied for Lines 3 and 6. There will be no crew members on board the trains and all functions – including driving, door opening and closing, safety, and overall train operation – will be fully automated.
