The meeting, which focused on the railway connections between the two countries, ratified Spain’s commitment to complying with the Trans-European Network Regulation, which is key to promoting sustainable European transport and the social and territorial cohesion of the European Union.

The representatives of both countries have pledged to continue working on these connections and to promote the work of the ‘Coordination Group on Spain-Portugal Railway Connections’ to align all the necessary actions in order to ensure intermodality. During the meeting they also referred to the northern connection, Vigo-Porto, and the importance of the Atlantic Corridor. Furthermore, they reiterated their commitment to maintaining a common position with the European Union and France to ensure that the latter accelerates the development of the infrastructure of the cross-border sections of both corridors on its territory.
