Alstom Spain to develop Madrid Metro´s first driverless line

(05/02/2025)

The contract includes the design, engineering, installation, and commissioning of the new signalling system and electronic interlocks necessary to upgrade the current CBTC system operating in GoA2 to a CBTC system that operates in GoA4. This evolution will enable fully autonomous and driverless operation. The project will also implement a new Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) system to enhance train monitoring and control.

The signalling system to be deployed, Alstom's ‘Urbalis CBTC’ system, will improve the safety, reliability, and capacity of Line 6 of the Madrid Metro network. This new technology will also allow increased frequencies and improved train efficiency, reducing their energy consumption.
