GMV to supply traffic operation system for ‘Metro de la 80’ project in Medellín, Colombia



GMV has signed its first transportation contract in Colombia to manage the trams of Medellín´s `Metro de la 80´, also known as Ecociudad Line E. The company will install GMV´s SAE-R® rail traffic operation system in 20 double-cab trains.

Siemens has selected GMV for the supply of the SAE-R® automatic vehicle location system as well as the service planning system of the trams of the ‘Metro de la 80’project in Medellín, Colombia. This contract is part of Metro de Medellín’s awarding of the civil works and train acquisition contract to the ‘Unión Temporal Metro de la 80’ (‘Metro de la 80’ consortium), which includes the manufacturer CRRC Co. Limited, responsible for supplying the trains. As part of this project, Siemens Mobility is the supplier of the power supply and signalling systems.

‘Metro de la 80’, also known as Ecociudad Line E, is a light rail project that will run north to south across Medellín. With a total length of 13.25 kilometres and 17 stations, the line is expected to be inaugurated in 2028.
