The jury has considered that Metro de Sevilla deserves this recognition for being a pioneer in the construction of a solar photovoltaic installation for self-supply that produces almost 2 million kW/h a year. This installation supplies energy to both trains and stations, and provides 15 percent of the total energy annually consumed by the metro system.

The project is an important step forward in Metro de Sevilla’s strategy of sustainable consumption, in line with the 2021-2024 Sustainability Strategic Plan of the Globalvia Group and the ‘Green Revolution’ of the Regional Government of Andalusia, which promotes the use of renewable energies in public and private spheres.
