To promote the transport of goods by rail, Linea Figueras Perpignan (LFP) will reduce tolls by 90% for all categories of freight trains that operate on the Perthus Tunnel. The new tolls will be valid from the 2025 annual service, which starts on December 15, 2024.

The decrease, which will continue over the medium and long term subject to annual revisions, is the result of a close collaboration with both States, Spanish and French, who are aware of climate issues and the need to migrate towards less polluting modes of transport, and thereupon intend to accompany modal shift by means of concrete measures having a direct effect on the competitiveness of the train.
This measure is in addition to others already in place to increase the modal share of the railway in freight transport, such as the opening of the line two nights per week for freight trains, the possibility of making available to operators the rolling stock maintenance facilities at LFP’s Maintenance Base in Llers (Girona), or the introduction of incentive mechanisms for freight transport by rail.
