A reduced trainset of the Al Ándalus luxury train recently crossed the border from Badajoz to Torre das Vargens station in Portugal to undergo some tests. The objective of these tests was to verify that the train’s use of the Portuguese lines would not affect the signalling and safety systems due to the electromagnetic return.
After the preparation and development of the railway operation, the tests carried out on the tracks of Torre das Vargens have been positive, thus confirming the feasibility of scheduling commercial traffic between Spain and Portugal with the Al Ándalus tourist train. The Al Ándalus train crossed into Portuguese territory with a trainset comprising two boxcars, a lounge car, and four sleeping cars (two Deluxe and two Grand Class).
The success of these tests represents an important milestone in the expansion of tourism operations to Portugal, which will allow Renfe to offer its passengers a unique and luxurious travel experience between Spain and Portugal.
