Thales Spain to upgrade signalling and telecommunications systems of Cairo-Giza-Beni Suef railway line



Egyptian National Railways (ENR) has awarded Thales Spain and local company Orascom Construction the contract for the modernisation of the signalling and telecommunications systems of the railway line that links the cities of Cairo, Giza and Beni Suef. The contract has a budget of more than 300 million Euros and a projected execution period of 60 months.

The contract will involve the renewal of the track as well as the signalling and telecommunications systems of the line linking the cities of Cairo, Giza and Beni Suef. The track is located on the east bank of the river Nile.

The scope of work covers the design, construction, testing, and commissioning. Moreover, it includes provision of spare parts, training, documentation, and guarantee with maintenance services, tracks, and civil works. In this project, Thales will also be in charge of the line's cybersecurity, ensuring robust protection against potential cyber threats. The objective of this contract is to modernise this route with a new action that is part of the improvement and safety project of Egypt’s Railways.
