Since May, the factory has been working on the first rail gearboxes on its new manufacturing line. During this first phase, the new line will focus on the manufacture of heavy gearboxes, such as for locomotives, starting for those built by the own company.

The initial production capacity of approximately 500 units per year is expected to increase gradually in the second phase, as production expands to meet demand for gearboxes in the Iberian market. Installing the new production line required the conversion of a separate manufacturing hall.

This project joins other initiatives by Siemens Mobility. A year ago the company began establishing a competence centre for converter cabinets that now employs more than 80 experts. Once production is fully ramped up, the company aims to consolidate its position as a specialised competence centre in the manufacture of these converter cabinets.
