The contract is part of the framework agreement for the ‘VDV-Tram-Train’ project and includes an initial order of 246 Citylink units representing a volume of around 1.7 billion Euros. There is also an option to order up to 258 more vehicles which are worth over 2.3 billion Euros.

In addition to vehicle production, Stadler's Valencia plant will also be in charge of the maintenance of the units. Pilot trains for this contract have also been manufactured at these facilities. This contract is the largest ever awarded to the Stadler Group and one of the biggest rail tenders in Europe.

The future Citylink is a train model that has been fully designed and developed at the Albuixech plant.
