The Sao Paulo State Government has reported that the Sao Paulo Metro has procured 26 trains, each with 6 cars, from CAF to run on the extension of Lila Line 5 on the city's metropolitan system.
The operation amounts to a total of 615 million reais (approximately 276 million euros) and is funded with the support of the BIRD World Bank. The first trains shall be delivered in 2013, with the order completed in 40 months.
These new trains for Sao Paulo are in addition to the seventeen 6 car trains which have already been delivered to the same customer in Brazil, as well as the various contracts to supply suburban units with Compañía Paulista de Trenes Metropolitanos (CPTM), some of which have already been supplied, with others currently in production.
CAF owns a plant in Hortolandia (State of Sao Paulo) which is the most state-of-the-art rolling stock factory in Latin America.
Santiago de Chile
The Santiago de Chile Metro has awarded CAF an order for the supply of 12 trains, each with 9 cars, which are in addition to the twenty 9 car trains already awarded to CAF in 2007 and which are currently running on the San Pablo–Los Dominicos Line 1.
The operation amounts to approximately 100 million euros. These new trains will be the first trains in the entire Santiago Metro fleet fitted with air conditioning.
