Sacyr, part of a consortium to build a section of the Guadalajara light rail system in Mexico

The Secretariat of Communications and Transportation of Mexico has awarded the construction works for the first section of the new Line 3 of the Guadalajara light rail system to a consortium comprising Sacyr, the Portuguese firm Mota Engil and two Mexican companies.

(13/06/2014)  This section, which is to be 8.7 km long and have seven elevated stations, will cover the distance between Periférico Zapopan and Federalismo. Works are scheduled to begin between June and July this year.

Meanwhile, the awarding of the second section between Plaza de la Bandera and Central Camionera is pending, as is the bus terminal, which will be 7.4 km long and comprise seven stations, and the 5.4 km section from Normal to Plaza de la Bandera. This third section is expected to be the most difficult due to the fact that it runs through as a tunnel under the Jalisco’s historic quarter.

This project is part of the major investments in public transport announced by the federal government, together with the recovery of the passenger railway for the Mexico-Querétaro and Mexico-Toluca routes.
