Renfe has acquired the 50% of the capital from Czech railway company Leo Express, which operates services in different Central European countries. The operation is framed within the framework of the internationalization process of the Spanish operator, set as an objective in its Strategic Plan.

The investment and shareholder agreements signed between the Spanish and Czech companies contemplate a 50% increase in Leo Express, which is assumed by Renfe.
The entry of Renfe as the main partner in Leo Express has the direct benefit of having activity in three more European countries (the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland) as well as having the resources and licenses to access the German market.
In addition, it allows you to immediately opt for Obligation of Public Service (OSP) tenders in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland, with local implementation capacity, experience, team or references in those countries, which many times are essential to compete. At the same time, Renfe would be better positioned to access the high-speed projects planned in the region.
Leo Express
Leo Express began operating in 2012 in the Czech Republic, and since then, it has extended its services to countries such as Slovakia and Poland, and has been awarded tenders of OSP in the Czech Republic itself. In Germany, since 2017, it has been operating for FlixTrain a long distance Open Access service between Berlin and Stuttgart.
Likewise, Leo Express has operated various road connections in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Poland and Ukraine. Currently, due to the pandemic, it is limited to operating railway services in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.
