Mecca-Medina High-Speed Railway reaches record of 930,000 passengers during Ramadan 2023

The high-speed train that connects the holy cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia, which is operated by Renfe KSA, has surpassed its record during the Ramadan 2023 special plan, between March 23 and April 25. This year there has been an increase in both the number of commercial services operated as well as in terms of passengers.

(11/05/2023)

The services of the Ramadan 2023 special plan have registered more than 930,000 passengers who travelled on 2,875 services, with an average punctuality rate of 96.9% during this period, which included the month of Ramadan and the following festive days.

These figures result in record levels for the line in terms of both daily and monthly passenger volumes. On 14 April, the highest number of passengers was reached in a single day since the commercial operation began in October 2018. In total, on that Friday, which is a festive day in Saudi Arabia, 37,355 passengers were transported on 115 trains, which registered 100% punctuality.

The monthly record was achieved in March 2023, with 620,259 passengers, 2,296 trains, and an average punctuality of 98%. This upward trend was already confirmed during the first days of Ramadan, between 23 and 31 March, when 191,941 passengers boarded the trains.
