The amount of the extension contract surpasses €90 million and the agreement increases to 53 the number of CAF units DLR will have in its fleet. The first unit of the initial contract was handed over last February, a contract that will increase the capacity of the DLR train fleet by 10%.
Just like the 43 previous units, the new trains will each consist of five cars and will offer improvements for passengers, including real-time visual and audio travel information, as well as air conditioning, mobile device charging stations, areas for pushchairs, bicycles and luggage, and wheelchair spaces. Testing of the units of the initial contract, which will start operation from 2024, is currently progressing.
