In May 2023, Infraestruturas de Portugal began working on the modernisation of the Cascais line, in the metropolitan area of Lisbon. This in-depth intervention includes the upgrading of the tracks and switchgear, the improvement of the information for the public with the installation of communication systems, and improved access, mobility and comfort for passengers.

Voestalpine Railway Systems JEZ supplies the switchgear for the upgrading of the do Oeste, do Sul, da Beira Alta and Cascais lines.
